Liz Barnes
psychodynamic psychotherapist
mbacp msc

I’m a BACP-registered psychotherapist with a Master's degree in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling from Birkbeck, University of London, one of the UK's leading psychotherapy training programmes. I also hold a Masters degree in Social Work.
Over the years, I’ve completed further training in Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mentalisation-Based Treatment (MBT), and working with trauma. This means I bring both depth and flexibility to my work, drawing on different therapeutic ideas where helpful to support your individual needs. I have over 20 years’ experience working in mental health and addiction services, including in the NHS.
I’ve supported people living with emotional difficulties and trauma both individually and in therapeutic groups. My work has given me a strong understanding of the ways trauma, abuse, addiction and mental health difficulties can shape a person’s inner world, relationships and day to day life. I bring this experience to my private practice with warmth, thoughtfulness, and a commitment to helping people feel more understood, more secure, and better able to cope. Alongside my private practice, I currently work for a charity offering low-cost therapy for people with mental health difficulties, and I facilitate support groups for people affected by cancer. I am also a trustee of a homelessness charity, where I support staff through supervision and offer consultation on safeguarding.
Contact me for a free 30-minute consultation so I can answer any questions you may have and we can explore how we might work together. I’ll get back to you within 1-2 days with some options for times to talk.
